IDA Team Earns Berth to Nationals

February 27, 2013

Averett University's Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) team hosted a two day show Feb. 23 and 24. The pressure was on as these shows would decide the Regional Champions, and would qualify one of the eight teams in the region for IDA Nationals, which will be held in South Hadley, Massachusetts this year. With Averett's team leading the region with only one point, all the riders knew what was at stake.

Saturday's show started out with freezing temperatures and rain, but Averett's riders brought the heat, winning three of the four divisions for the day. These three first place finishes ultimately led the team to victory, coming in first overall.

Accomplishments for the day included junior Catherine Doane pointing out of her division, senior Nicki Conradt-Eberlin receiving High Point rider of the day and junior Jessie Hayes receiving Reserve High Point. Although Averett had great successes Saturday, the team would also have to win on Sunday to be able to keep their lead and qualify for Nationals.

Sunday started out a little brighter weather wise, but the competition was a lot stiffer. It was tough trying to determine a clear winner throughout the day as placings were scattered amongst the four different teams competing. Conradt-Eberlin brought home the win for Averett's team with another fantastic ride and an individual first place.

With this win, Averett guaranteed the team a spot in National Competitions, followed closely by their rival, St. Andrews University in second place. Individual accomplishments for the region include Divisional Champions Hayes and Lindsey Baker, with Divisional Reserve Champions sophomore Scnobia Stewart and Conradt-Eberlin.
