Music to Soothe the Soul

March 4, 2013

The University's music department is ending the season on a high note with two different musical performances. Brentt Simmons will perform his senior saxophone recital on Sunday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. He will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Anne Lewis, associate professor of music. The concert is free and open to the public.

Simmons, an Axton resident, is majoring in music performance. During his time at Averett, he has been very involved in campus life – participating in the Christian Student Union and working for the admissions office as a senior ambassador. He has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the Averett Singers and at various Averett functions including receptions, parties and theatre department productions. When he graduates, he plans to attend seminary and teach music.

Following Simmons' senior recital is a spring concert from the Averett Singers on Sunday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Singers will be performing a variety of compositions including spirituals, Gospel music and even some musical theatre selections. Area alumni who were members of the Averett Singers are invited to join in by singing the "Forehand Benediction" at the end of the concert.

For more information about either performance, please contact Lewis at 434-791-5644.
