President of HCA's Capital Division to Speak at Commencement

Averett University is pleased to announce that Margaret Lewis '06, president of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) will speak during its spring Commencement ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at its E. Stuart James Grant Convocation and Athletic Center.

Lewis, who has served as president of HCA's Capital Division since 2006, is responsible for the operation of hospitals and outpatient facilities in northern, central and southwestern Virginia, New Hampshire, Indiana and Kentucky. She began her career with HCA as a student nurse in Richmond, and has been promoted up through the ranks.

In addition to her HCA responsibilities, Lewis serves on the board of Smithfield Foods, Inc. She is a governor appointed member of the Science Museum of Virginia and a past governor appointee of the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia. She is chairman-elect of the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and past secretary/treasurer. In addition, she is a founding board member of LEAD Virginia and Richmond's Future.

She has received several awards and recognitions over the years including the Executive Women in Business Achievement Award in 2011; the American Healthcare Executives Regent Award in 2010; and "Washington Business Journal's" Women Who Mean Business Award in 2008.
