University Recognizes Teachers of the Year

Averett University is proud to announce that 23 of its education graduates were named "Educator of the Year" for 2012-13 in their respective school systems. Alumni from six different school systems and two private schools were recognized May 15 during a special event at the home of Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks.

Teachers from the Danville Public Schools who were recognized were Susan L. Appleton '96 from I.W. Taylor Elementary School; Rhonda M. Harris '04 from Glenwood Elementary; David L. Lee '99 from W.W. Moore Detention Home; Amber D. Lowery '04, '11 from Woodrow Wilson Elementary; Jamesha L. Petty '03 from Northside Preschool; Debra J. Rojas '92, '04 from Forest Hills Elementary; and Teresa C. Whitmire '80, '86 from O.T. Bonner Middle School.

Those from Pittsylvania County Public Schools who were recognized are Stacey R. Boswell '96 of Brosville Elementary; Sydney C. Edwards '04, '07 from Union Hall Elementary; Betty A. Guy '94 from Kentuck Elementary; Shannon N. Louhoff '06 from Stony Mill Elementary; Toni F. Morris '86 from the Pittsylvania Career & Technical Center; Martha M. Scearce '68, '72 from Chatham Elementary; and Beverly A. White '82 from Tunstall High.

Alumni from two schools in the Martinsville City Public School were recognized – Roxanne F. Collins '86 from Patrick Henry Elementary; and Devon Wall '06, '09 from Martinsville High.

Three alumni who work in the Henry County Public Schools were recognized. Rebekah J. Flora '04 from Stanleytown Elementary; Shonna L. Pilson '02 from Rich Acres Elementary; and Brenda L. Radford '07 from Laurel Park Middle.

Kimberley Thompson-Hairston '09 from Rockingham Early College High School in Rockingham County, N.C.; Jessica D. Jones '07, '12 from. N.L. Dillard Middle School in Caswell County, N.C.; Errol D. Morton '84 from Epiphany Episcopal School; and Debra C. Rawley '79 from Sacred Heart School were also recognized.
