Leaving a Legacy

July 8, 2013

Averett is the grateful recipient of the following legacy gifts from generous friends and alumni:

• Marion Merle Horne Wentz '33 of Martinsville left Averett more than $175,000 through her estate.

• Michael McHugh of Katonah, N.Y., honored the memory of his wife, Suzanne '58, with a $40,000 scholarship as their legacy. The Suzanne Kennedy McHugh Memorial Scholarship is need based and is awarded to a student who has a minimum GPA of 2.5.

• Anna Lee Hinton Fetter '40 of Durham, N.C., bequeathed $25,000 to augment the Richard and Louise Hinton Scholarship. She was a long-time donor to Averett during her life time, and was a highly regarded nurse in the Duke University Nursing Program for more than 25 years.

These gifts mean so much to the lives of our students as well as to the University. We are forever grateful for the generosity of our legacy donors, and are honored that their time at Averett left such an impression on their lives that they wished to give back to us.

If you would like to leave a legacy at Averett, please contact Debbie Flinn, director of development and planned giving, at (434) 791-5680 or dflinn@averett.edu.
