Alumna Believes in Importance of Degree

August 7, 2013

Rebecca Hudson graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in business administration: marketing. Below, she shares why she thinks a bachelor's degree is so important and what she is doing now that she's graduated.

I feel as though obtaining a bachelor's degree is a must in today's society because it gives you a better knowledge of the job you wish to pursue. It also helps you learn how to present your ideas to a co-worker or management, or maybe conduct research for your company. There are just so many benefits to getting a bachelor's degree.

Averett prepared me for my future and career because professors know how to guide their students without "holding their hand," which makes students begin to figure out what the "real world" is like.

I am an employee of QBE NAU Country as a crop adjuster. In my position, I work claims for the insurance agency, which means that I go out to the farmer's fields and appraise their damage, whether it be from drought, excessive rain or anything else that may occur.

My favorite thing about my time at Averett was when I finished all of my general education requirements and began to have the same people in all of my classes. We formed a real bond. Teachers became a part of this bond as well which made it easy to go to them when there was a problem.

I encourage other students to create day-to-day goals. Before you know it, your long-term goal will be accomplished.
