"U.S. National Security: The Big Players"

Averett University's 1859-Coffeehouse Lecture Series opens with a look into U.S. National Security and those who are involved in keeping our country safe. The lecture − "U.S. National Security: The Big Players" − will be led by Dr. Simona Kragh, assistant professor in the history and political science department. It will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Student Center. It is free and open to the public.

In this day and age, national security is at the center of attention in public opinion and the media. This intense scrutiny can lead to heated debate that has often characterized the discussions on this topic, especially after September 11, accuracy sometimes yields to imprecision and incompleteness. The purpose of this presentation is to describe the main players in the American national security establishment, their actual capabilities and their limitations in ensuring the safety of our country.
