Four Years in a Row Averett Named Military Friendly School

September 10, 2013

Averett University is pleased to announce that for the fourth consecutive year it has been named a "military friendly" school by Victory Media. This honor ranks the University in the top 20 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide that are working to help America's military and veterans as students.

"Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows Averett University's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," said Sean Collins, director for G.I. Jobs and vice president at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. "The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools."

Averett is one of 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide to make the list. The schools were chosen because they exhibit leading practices in recruiting and retaining students with military experience. Now in its fifth year, the list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven nationwide survey of more than 10,000 schools that are approved for VA tuition funding. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year.

"To be recognized as a military friendly institution for the fourth consecutive year is such an honor," said Janet Roberson, assistant dean/registrar and military affairs officer at Averett. "At Averett, we make it a priority to serve current members of the military as well as veterans and their families, making sure they have easy access to a quality education at an affordable price."

Veterans and current members of the military (both active and reserve) have a number of options available to them through Averett. The University offers a military discount for active duty military and it participates in the Post 911 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program for veterans as well as other GI Bill Chapters. Many veterans in the Post 911 GI Bill program also transfer entitlement to their spouse or children. In addition, Averett offers financial aid to those who are eligible. Complete information about military options can be found at

Averett offers classes in an accelerated format leading toward bachelor and master of business administration degrees at satellite campuses across the state including at the Marine Corps Base at Quantico.
