Theatre Department to Perform "Brave, a Musical Cabaret"

November 4, 2013

Averett University's theatre department will perform "Brave, a Musical Cabaret" Nov. 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the University's Student Center.

"It's a cycle of songs that our Averett students are presenting about being brave enough to speak up about who they are, how they feel and what they want," said Brad Bass, artist in residence. "It promises to be an extremely exciting evening!"

The name of the show comes from a Sara Bareilles song entitled "Brave." Students will be performing a variety of songs including "Brave;" "I'm Not Afraid of Anything" from "Songs for a New World;" "I'm Alive" from "Next to Normal;" "Come so Far" from the "Hairspray" movie; and "Home" by Michael Bublé. The production will use some different forms of theatrical storytelling along with some projections by Henry Echeverria, technical director.

"In life, especially in your teens and early 20s the hardest thing to do is be honest about who you are and how you feel," Bass said. "I wanted this show to represent everything from despair to laughter. I wanted our students to share a little bit about themselves, and a little bit about where they are emotionally and where they hope to be in the future."

Tickets for the production are $9 for adults and $7 for students/senior citizens. They may be purchased in advance by calling 434-791-5712 or on the night of the performance.
