Spring Commencement Ceremony


May 12, 2014

Averett held its spring Commencement ceremony Saturday, May 10 at its E. Stuart James Grant Convocation Center. More than 300 students received their diplomas during the ceremony. Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks awarded 73 master's degrees and 254 bachelor's degrees to the graduating class.

Seven students were recognized for the academic achievements and community involvement. Noel Christian Thompson of Locust Grove received the Malcolm Knowles Award for having the highest grade point average (GPA) in the graduating class for the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program. Jonathan P. Franchebois of Chesapeake received the Frank R. Campbell Award for having the second highest GPA in the graduating class for the GPS Program.

Marie Frances Vernon of Danville received the Mary C. Fugate Award for having the highest GPA in the graduating class for the traditional program. Chloe Elizabeth Mayhew of Ridgeway was awarded the Grace V. Crenshaw Award for having the second highest GPA in the graduating class for the traditional program. Mayhew also received the American Legion Citizenship Award.

Carianna Sherell Beck of Mocksville, N.C. received the C.L. Davenport Award for Excellence.
The Curtis Bishop Award was given to Andres Manuel Prenza of Miami, Fla.
