Hijinks and Mayhem Unfold in Averett's Production of "The Comedy of Errors"
October 26, 2009
After being separated at birth, two sets of identical twins can't help but cause hijinks and mayhem as William Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" takes the stage at Averett University Nov. 5-7. Averett's theatre department will present three performances, all at 7:30 p.m. in the University's Pritchett Auditorium.
Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness and demonic possession.
"The Comedy of Errors" is one of Shakespeare's most farcical, with a major part of the humor coming from slapstick, mistaken identity and the all-out mayhem of puns and wordplay.
This production is supported in part by a grant from the Morotock Fund of the Community Foundation.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students/senior citizens and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 791-5712. Averett alumni are invited to dinner prior to the show on Nov. 6.
