Woundy Named Faculty Emeritus by Averett Board of Trustees
November 2, 2009
Dr. Doug Woundy, former faculty member for Averett University's Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program, was unanimously named faculty emeritus by the University's Board of Trustees after the full-time faculty on the traditional campus endorsed it 100 percent. Woundy retired in June after having served as a full-time faculty member since 1996. He will be formally recognized by Averett University President Dr. Tiffany Franks at the December Commencement exercises.
"This is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a faculty member and is testimony to Dr. Woundy's extraordinary contributions and service to Averett University," Franks said.
Woundy was one of the first faculty members of the GPS Program, and he made many contributions during his tenure. He served as chair of the GPS business department several times, and he helped formulate policies regarding work load and faculty support. He also worked to bring GPS policies in line with those on the traditional campus.
Dr. Alice Obenchain-Leeson, the current chair of the GPS department of business, said of Woundy, "Doug was (and remains) a passionate teacher" whom his students describe as "knowing the real world" and "very demanding."
Woundy will continue to serve the University as an adjunct professor.
