Flying Cougars to Compete in National Competition

Thanks to placing well at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association's SAFECON 2009 competition held Oct. 28-31, Averett's Flying Cougars will compete in the national competition at Indiana State University in May. The team placed second in ground events, first in team flight events and second overall.

They competed against students from Liberty University, Hampton University, Elizabeth City State University, Guilford Technical Community College, Lenoir Community College and Caldwell Community College. The students were judged on a variety of tasks including landing and simulator practice, aircraft recognition, navigation and preflight inspections.
