March 26. 2010

Averett University will welcome David Whitley, one of the nation's top kettlebell fitness instructors, for an April 8 presentation and an April 9 training session. Whitley will offer a kettlebell demonstration and discussion of the training benefits April 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Averett's Blount Chapel. The presentation is free and open to the public. He will also offer a training session April 9 at 9 a.m. at Averett's Grant Center (North Campus, Mt. Cross Rd.). The cost of the training session is $150, and registration is required. To register, or for more information, call 251-0920.

Kettlebells, which have a long history of popularity in Europe, are ball-shaped weights with a single looped handle at the top. They range in weight from two pounds to more than 100 pounds. Kettlebells promote functional, whole body fitness.

Whitley, known as the "Iron Tamer," is a Certified Kettlebell Functional Movement Specialist and a professional performing strongman. He holds workshops and training sessions throughout the United States. Information about Whitley's programs is available on www.irontamer.com.
