Averett Inducts Education Majors into New Honor Society

A new honor society was recently formed at Averett University and its charter members were inducted during a special ceremony April 24. The Alpha Zeta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) International Honor Society is for education majors at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Thirty-three charter members were inducted into the society. Those inducted include: Samantha Carol Aaron, '10; Shannon Goodman Barbour; Katelyn Rae Burnette; Wendy H. Brooks; Michael J. Brown; Ashley R. Coleman, '10; Cary Lee Cumbo; Trey Dodson; Kimberley Rose Doran; Olivia Brooke Frost; Akrista, "Kristi," Lattariyon Harris; Pattie Marie Keatts, '10; Maggie O'Brien Oakes; Taylor Leigh Poirier, '10; Ryan T. Reynolds; Dustin A. Russell; Katie Jordan Shields; Heather Springs; Kristina Danielle Taylor, '10; Jennifer Jones Trail, '10; Jasmine Octavia Wilson; Re'Shawn T. Woodson; Melanie Chilton, '08; Angela Davis; Anna Marie Jasko; Theresa C. Lawrence; Amanda C. Rising, '09; Amanda Sam, '08; Jared R. Smith, '09; Laura W. Turton, graduate student; Bill Lawrence, assistant professor of education; and Dr. Lynn Wolf, associate professor of education. Dr. Pam Riedel, education professor and Megan Lakey, '09, were reaffirmed as charter members.

The group has already conducted their first service project. They collected 80 books that will be given to a needy organization in the Danville area in support of young children.

KDP is one of the largest and more prestigious educational honor societies in the world with more than 500 active chapters.
