Averett to Celebrate Christmas

November 3, 2010

As the busy rush of the Christmas season begins, take time to enjoy several special community Christmas celebrations at Averett University.

Festival of Lessons and Carols
Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Pritchett Auditorium

This event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a 40-voiced combined choir of singers from churches around the city, the Averett Singers and soloist Donna Redd, along with musicians Dr. Tim Montgomery on the organ, Dr. Anne Lewis on the piano and Gary Ferguson, who will lead the handbell choir. Following the concert, please make plans to join us for a reception on the Student Center Plaza.

"I am very excited about collaborating with such a gifted group of musicians," said Dr. Gail Allen, director of the 40-voice Averett Singers/Community Choir and head of the music department. "As holiday celebrations begin all around town, we see this concert as our gift to the Danville community for their continued support of the University. In fact, we hope this will be the start of an annual tradition."

The campus will be lighted with luminaries, window candles and blue, white and gold Christmas tree balls. The night will include a concert of music, handbells and reading for the Advent and Christmas seasons. At the conclusion of the event, the official Averett Christmas tree will be lit on the lawn beside Pritchett Auditorium.
