Inclement Weather Policy Reminder

January 10, 2011

It’s the time of year again when bad weather impacts our schedules, slows us down and makes us wonder when spring will arrive. A big concern when bad weather strikes is whether or not we need to travel to work and school. Averett makes it easy to find the answer by providing several ways of getting your weather and closing updates.

Whenever bad weather strikes, main campus users can check their voice mail for a message from administration about closing and delay information. In addition, signing up with our Campus Alert Service will provide e-mail and/or text messages with updates. Our website weather alerts page features messaging for the GPS regions as well, and tuning into to local television and radio stations will also provide you with up-to-date closing and delay information. When the University main campus has a delayed opening, all delays are based on beginning of the University day. (8:00 a.m. when classes are in session, 8:30 a.m. when classes are not in session on the main campus.)

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with Averett inclement weather procedures so that you will never need to question whether or not Averett is closed for inclement weather.
