Alumnus Publishes in Smithsonian Magazine

Averett alumnus and Danville native Ernest B. "Pat" Furgurson, '50, recently published an article in Smithsonian magazine entitled Danville, Virginia: Hallowed Ground. Furgurson is a former syndicated columnist and chief of the Baltimore Sun's bureaus in Washington, Moscoe and Saigon.

Furgurson has also written articles for National Geographic and Reader's Digest among others. In addition to covering national and world affairs as a reporter, Furgurson has written six books. His first one, "Westmoreland: The Inevitable General," was published in the late 1960s.
