For a canned good/non-perishable food item, Averett University's Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program waived their $50 application fee during the month of December. Last month they donated 125 pounds of food (107 pounds of canned goods and 18 pounds of non-canned goods) to Lynchburg's Daily Bread, Inc.
"We decided to take on this project as part of our outreach to the community," said Katherine Pappas-Smith, regional director of enrollment for the GPS Program. "While we serve the entire Southside area, we chose Lynchburg to raise awareness of the fact we hold classes in Forest. In addition to donating food to Daily Bread we will also be volunteering there in the near future."
The University offers classes leading toward bachelor and master of business administration degrees as well as a master of education degree in Forest at 316 Brook Park Place.
