Averett offers a variety of academic scholarships to incoming and returning students. These scholarships often help to tip the balance in Averett's favor for students who may not have imagined an education at a private university was possible. Now, thanks to a gift from the Philip N. & Frances K. Daly Charitable Lead Unitrust, even more students will benefit from the financial assistance that helps to make their dreams of a higher education a reality.
The Daly Promise Awards will fund eight, multi-year scholarships for first-generation, local, rising sophomore students who have shown promise during their freshman year at Averett. This year's award recipients include Emily Crabb who is pursuing a degree in history and a minor in religion; Dionne Daniels who is pursuing a degree in liberal studies; Hunter Johnson who is pursuing a degree in business administration: management science; Molly Nanney who is pursuing a degree in physical education: wellness/sports medicine; Dusty Sheppard who is pursuing a degree in sociology/criminal justice; Ryan Eman who is pursuing a degree in physical education: wellness/sports medicine; Kaneshia Slade who is also pursuing a degree in physical education: wellness/sports medicine; and Courtney Martin who is pursuing a degree in communications/journalism and a minor in business administration.
