IDA Team Bound for Nationals

March 1, 2011

Congratulations to the University's Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) and Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) teams!

The IDA team placed first and second at their show Feb. 26. The wins gave the team enough points to be named the Region I Champion team and qualified them to compete at the National Championships in Florida April 30-May 1. There were also four riders who are Region I individual champions at their level. Those riders are Emily Henderson, a junior from Pennsylvania who won at first level; Shannon Stone, a freshman from North Carolina who was regional reserve champion at the upper training level; Christina Fiebeck, a senior from Florida who won at the lower training level; Valerie Harr, a senior from Pittsylvania County who was individual reserve champion at the lower training level; and Cat Rock, a junior from Georgia who won at the intro level.

The IHSA team won the Sportsmanship Trophy from Virginia Intermont College. This award is voted on by equestrians from VIC and presented to the team who has shown qualities of friendship and sportsmanship. In addition to winning the team's win of the Sportsmanship Trophy, two riders earned enough points to qualify for the regional semi-finals. Senior Bethany Bradshaw from North Carolina and freshman Margaret Hayes from North Carolina will compete at Virginia Tech March 11.
