Averett Central is Coming to Historic Main Hall

June 10, 2011

There's a big change shaping up behind the dust and noise that has dominated the first floor of Averett's Main Hall for the past month. A century into its service to generations of Averett students, Main Hall will now house Averett Central, a one-stop-shop designed to better serve students in accomplishing the "business" of being in school. In August, new and returning students will find the Registrar, Student Accounts and Financial Aid offices all together in one central location.

"We describe Averett Central as a 'mindset' because it reflects the student-centered focus that has guided recent improvements at Averett like the Galesi Family Student Success Center and the Schoolfield House Booksellers," said Dr. Stuart Jones, vice president of enrollment management. "We believe that placing these vital student services together in the heart of campus will better serve our students and also lead to increased recruitment and retention."

Students entering Averett Central will be greeted and served by student service coordinators, who will ensure that their needs are met quickly and efficiently. Averett Central is a visible outcome of the University's ongoing strategic plan and is the fulfillment of many student and staff recommendations.

Staff, faculty and summer students in Main Hall all know change is underway this summer. Averett Central is being built in space formerly occupied by faculty offices, the campus mailroom and classrooms. Thanks to all who have had to relocate, or continue working over the sounds of construction. Their patience is appreciated. When the dust settles and Averett Central opens its doors for students, it will not only provide better service - it will be an attractive addition to campus.
