Averett GPS Staff the First to Move into Riverview Campus

June 10, 2011

This week, thirteen members of Averett University's Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) staff became the first new occupants of the renovated former Dimon headquarters in Danville's Historic Tobacco Warehouse District when they moved into their new offices. The renovated space, which will be shared by Averett and the Danville Regional Foundation, is called the Riverview Campus by the university. On Thursday and Friday, the GPS staff moved from their former offices on the school's campus at 420 West Main Street.

"We're excited by the room to grow a program that offers so many possibilities for working professionals in this region," said Kendall Carter, interim dean, Graduate and Professional Studies. "The GPS program will be much more visible in this location in the heart of our downtown revitalization."

On the morning of their first day in their new offices, the Averett Cougar and members of the Averett leadership team greeted the staff on the steps of Riverview. While these were the first Averett staff to move in, eventually the Riverview Campus will also house faculty and staff associated with Averett's expanded health sciences initiative. Meanwhile, construction continues on renovating the former offices and warehouse space to accommodate classrooms, lab space, conference rooms and additional offices for Averett's GPS and health sciences programs. The Danville Regional Foundation plans to move into the building in August.
