University Set to Welcome Prospective Students for Private College Week

July 13, 2011

Averett University is one of 25 private colleges and universities statewide that will welcome prospective students during Virginia's Private College Week, July 25-30. Students who visit at least three of Virginia's private colleges during the week will receive three application fee waivers. Students may use these waivers to apply to any three private colleges or universities for free.

"Visiting a college or university during the summer is a great head start for rising juniors and seniors," said Joel Nester, director of admissions and international student counselor at Averett. "One of the nice things about Private College Week is that it allows us to dispel some common myths about attending private college. It also gives students the opportunity to see firsthand how Averett can turn their big dreams into reality."

Averett will hold two open house programs a day, July 25-29, for prospective students and their families - one session at 9 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. There will only be one session on Saturday, July 30, and that will be held at 9 a.m. All sessions begin with registration in the multi-purpose room of the Student Center, which is located on the corner of Woodland Drive and Townes Street on Averett's Main Campus in historic Danville, Va. During the visits, students and their families will tour the campus and learn about Averett's academic and co-curricular offerings as well as receive information about scholarships and admissions procedures.

For more information contact Averett's Admissions Office at (434) 791-6880 or e-mail James Thurnes, campus guest coordinator, at
