Message from the President

In a little more than a week exams will start and your student will soon begin their summer activities.  It amazes me how fast this first year has gone.  I am honored to serve as President and to be surrounded by so many talented and dedicated students, staff and faculty, and loyal alumni. The highlight of my year has been the opportunities to be with our students…whether visiting in the dining hall, cheering them on at sporting events, watching them perform in our theatre productions or sing in our choirs. They are the reason we are called to serve each day.

The month of April on Averett's campus has been a time of celebration as we recognize and celebrate all that our students have achieved throughout the year.  We do this in ways, big and small, through academic honors banquets, sports banquets, and through kind words and pats on the back. We share with our students the excitement of first jobs, the sought-after graduate school acceptance letter and, for our returning students, the promise of more to learn in the fall.

This Friday, April 17, the Averett University family will celebrate its 150 birthday!  This is a special time on our campus as we honor yesterday and affirm the tomorrow we are building together.  Much has changed in the world and at Averett over these 150 years.  Yet what has kept our institution strong since 1859 has been our commitment to tradition and the wisdom to embrace change.  This pioneering spirit and innovative thinking is what will position Averett to thrive as we move forward.

I wish you and your son or daughter a wonderful summer.

With Gratitude,
franks
Tiffany M. Franks
