Is your son or daughter stressing about the end of the semester and exams coming up in a week? Remind them there are three offices on campus that are there to help – the Office of Student Success, the Galesi Family Resource Center and the Writing Center. All of these resources are free and may prove vital for your son or daughter's success.

The Office of Student Success is dedicated to enhancing a student’s academic performance and aiding him or her in achieving his or her educational goals. You can refer your son or daughter to the Office of Student Success by contacting Mary Vanderlinden at 434-791-5754, or e-mail the office at OSS@averett.edu. You may also visit the Office of Student Success Web site at www.averett.edu/academics/student-success.

The Galesi Academic Resource Center provides tutoring assistance for any class or special project. It teaches students general study skills such as how to manage their time, study and conduct research. The resource center also provides assistance for such tests as the MCAT and GRE. In addition, the resource center provides assistance to students with special needs.

The final office, but no less important, is the Writing Center, which works with students one-on-one to help them make their writing more vibrant, clear and effective. Students are assisted in all stages of the process from generating ideas to proofreading the final draft. Appointments are recommended.

For more information about the Galesi Academic Resource Center call Larry Compton at 434-791-5788 or e-mail larry.compton@averett.edu. For the Writing Center contact Stephen Hecox at 434-791-5836 or e-mail stephen.hecox@averett.edu.
