Averett Welcomes Class of 2013 welcome

Class is now in session, and boy are we excited! Last month we welcomed approximately 300 new students, representing 17 states and seven foreign countries to campus along with returning students.

"Students continue to be attracted to the benefits of the small, intimate learning community that Averett provides," said Averett Dean of Admissions Kathie Tune. "They recognize that, in many ways, we offer the best of both worlds—a small classroom environment combined with opportunities for internships, study abroad and other forms of experiential learning typically provided by larger universities."

Tune notes that the University is seeing an increase in the number of students interested in majoring in the fine arts while the athletic training, equestrian and aeronautics programs also continue to attract students.

Averett's freshmen are a diverse group, with 25 international students in the new class. They hail from Sweden, Finland, England, Canada, India, Norway and the Cayman Islands, and are joined by new classmates from 17 states.

Local students are also making Averett their University of choice. Approximately 20 percent of the new class is from Danville and Pittsylvania County.
