Panthers blank CNU
DANVILLE, Va. - Ferrum's Ryan Cooper pitched a gem Friday night in a 5-0 win over Christopher Newport in the USA South Conference Baseball Tournament at Dan Daniel Park.
Cooper gave up a double to CNU's John Corbin in the first inning and went on to retire the next 22 batters. He struck out six batters in the game and gave up only three hits, while going the distance. Captain starter Eben Brower also gave a solid effort, as he tallied 10 strikeouts in the contest. However, Ferrum blasted 12 hits off of him and scored one run in the third, three in the fourth, and added another in eighth for the 5-0 margin.
Kasey Harmon paced the Ferrum offense with a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored and an RBI. Quincy Davenport and Jason Butler both added two hits and an RBI for Ferrum.
The Captains received one hit each from Jason Moody, John Corbin, and Charlie Hardy.
Ferrum advaces to face Methodist at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, while CNU moves to the loser's bracket to face N.C. Wesleyan at 1:15 p.m. (Box) |
