Current Averett assistant baseball coach earns a spot on the Frontier League’s West Division All-Star Team and will also compete in the Frontier League Home Run Derby.

O’FALLON, Mo. – Averett University assistant baseball coach and former Cougar standout Greg Stevens will participate in the 12 th Annual Frontier League All-Star Game on Wednesday at T.R. Additionally, as one of the top-10 home run hitters selected to play in the game, Stevens also qualifies to participate in the 24/7 Sports Home Run Derby to be held one hour before Wednesday’s contest.

Stevens has played in 49 games for the Gateway Grizzlies, who are currently 29-22 and only three games out of first place in their division. The Ringgold, VA native is currently batting .278 and has belted 11 homeruns this season, one more than his collegiate career total. Stevens has also batted in 36 runs, hit 12 doubles, and scored 34 times on the season. On July 8, Stevens blasted his first professional grand slam during an 11-3 win over Mid-Missouri.

Playing the bulk of his collegiate career behind the plate, Stevens has made the transition to third base in the professional ranks. He is a 2002 first team all-conference selection and was a member of the all-conference second team during his senior year of 2003. Stevens holds Averett career records for hits (191), doubles (43), and RBIs (134). His 68 hits in 2002 is also a school-best.

Stevens is the second Cougar to be selected to the Frontier League All-Star Game. George Fisher, who also serves as an assistant on the Averett baseball squad, played in the 2002 all-star game as a pitcher.
