Yost tied for fourth in Gulf Coast League with four wins
JUPITER, Fl. – Former Averett University left handed hurler Wendell Gene Yost is making a name for himself in the professional baseball ranks. The current Expo in the Gulf Coast League and 2004 MLB 20 th round draft pick ranks fourth among the league pitching leaders in total wins.
Yost, a native of Lynchburg, VA, holds a record of 4-1 in eight appearances. He has a 4.01 earned run average in 24 and two-thirds innings of work, while fanning 16. Known for his control on the hill, Yost has only allowed five walks and has not thrown a wild pitch as a professional.
As a member of the Averett baseball team from 2001-2004, Yost was named to the all-conference team each of his three seasons. In 2003, during the Cougars’ conference tournament title run, Yost was named the Dixie Tournament MVP after throwing two complete game wins in only four days.
