In a few short weeks the first groups of students will begin to arrive on campus. Below are a few reminders, notes, and confirmations to help you prepare to arrive to campus.
Arriving to Campus:
New students and returning students arrive to campus at various times during August. Arrival dates are online at the New Student Orientation Web site.
- Football Players: All football players will arrive on campus prior to opening weekend. Please watch for information from the coaching staff about your arrival/check-in dates and times.
- Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, and Women’s Soccer Players: You too will be arriving to campus early to begin preseason training. The coaching staff will contact you with specific dates, times, and locations for your check-in.
- New Residential Freshmen that DID ATTEND June or July Orientation: New freshmen living on campus that did attend orientation in June or July will check-in between 9:00 a.m. and noon on Saturday, August 21st at their residence hall (See locations below). Once you have received your key to you residence hall you will then check-in in at the Multipurpose Room on the 2nd floor of the Student Center (located on the corner of Townes Street and Woodland Drive). During your check-in time you will receive information about new student orientation and follow-up with any offices on campus that you need to complete business with. This is your opportunity to take care of any last minute business with areas such as financial aid, and student accounts. Once you have completed this you will have the day to get settled in and relax. Your parents and family members are welcome to join us for dinner on campus that evening. Following dinner we will have our opening with the entire class of 2014, the university administration, and parents and guests at 7:00 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. You will begin the weekend after dinner and stay busy until classes begin on Wednesday, August 25th. Parents are encouraged to stay through the opening session and are invited to attend a reception that evening at the home of our president.
- New Residential Freshmen that DID NOT ATTEND June or July Orientation: New freshmen living on campus that did not attend orientation in June or July will check-in between 9:00 a.m. and Noon on Saturday, August 21st in the Multipurpose Room on the 2nd floor of the Student Center (located on the corner of Townes Street and Woodland Drive). During your check-in time you will receive information about new student orientation, advising and registration, and take your photo for your student ID. Once you have completed this we will direct you to your second check-in location – your new residence hall. Once you have checked in orientation will begin for you and your family at 12:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. Please plan to be at these sessions as you will be receiving important information and will be taking placement tests. Remember – orientation is required! Your parents and family members are welcome to join us for dinner on campus that evening immediately following your afternoon sessions. Following dinner we will have our opening with the entire class of 2014, the university administration, and parents and guests at 7:00 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. You will begin the weekend after dinner and stay busy until classes begin on Wednesday, August 25th. Parents are encouraged to stay through the opening session and are invited to attend a reception that evening at the home of our president.
- New Commuter Freshmen that DID ATTEND June or July Orientation: New freshmen living off campus that did attend orientation in June or July should plan to check-in at 6:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. We will then have our opening with the entire class of 2014, the university administration. Parents and guests are 7:00 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. You will begin the weekend after dinner and stay busy until classes begin on Wednesday, August 25th. Parents are encouraged to stay through the opening session and are invited to attend a reception that evening at the home of our president. You should plan to stay with us through the evening, be with us all day Sunday, Monday. Remember – orientation is required!
- New Commuter Freshmen that DID NOT ATTEND June or July Orientation: New freshmen living off campus that did not attend orientation in June or July should plan to check-in with other new freshmen between 9:00 am – 12pm in the Multipurpose Room on the 2nd floor of the Student Center (Located on the corner of Townes Street and Woodland Drive). During this check-in process you will check-in for the semester, take your picture for your student id, and have an opportunity to take care of any other business you need. Once you have checked in orientation will begin for you and your family at 12:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. Please plan to be at these sessions as you will be receiving important information and will be taking placement tests. Remember – orientation is required! Your parents and family members are welcome to join us for dinner on campus that evening immediately following your afternoon sessions. - You should plan to stay with us through the evening, be with us all day Sunday, and attend your advising appointment on Monday, August 23rd!
New Student Orientation:
A tentative schedule for freshman orientation is available online on the New Student Orientation Web site. Those students participating in fall sports will be with us for most of the orientation program. The coaching staff will provide you with a detailed schedule of the portions you will be participating in. Remember that orientation is required – it is an opportunity for you to get ready for the start of a new experience, a new semester, and a new quest! You will receive a detailed schedule once you arrive to campus.
What if I attended the summer orientation program?
- - Those of you that attended the summer orientation program will be with us for some of the fall orientation, but not the entire program. We will provide you with a schedule once you arrive. For those living off-campus you should plan to arrive on Saturday, August 21 and join us for the main opening session that evening at 7 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. You will have most of Sunday free. Those students living on campus will have this time free as well, but a variety of programs will be offered both on and off campus for you…why not kick back and have a little fun!
Move-In Locations
For those students that will be living on campus the following are the check-in locations for each residence hall:
- - Fugate Hall: Fugate Lobby
- - Danville and Bishop Hall: Mountain View Ave at Danville Hall
- - Main and Davenport Hall: Front of Main Hall

Housing and Residence Life:
All residential students must complete the housing application in order to be housed for the upcoming year. Those students that have not completed this will be contacted directly by the Office of Residence Life. Once you have been housed, your housing assignment, address, and the contact information for your new roommate will be included in your PC Self Service check-list. Again, instructions for accessing the check-list were sent to all students and are available on the New Student Orientation Web site. Take some time over the coming weeks to contact your new roommate and discuss the items you will be bringing in the fall. A list of items that students commonly forget and items that are not allowed in residence halls is located on the Residence Life Web site.
Advising and Registration:
All new freshmen that did not attend the summer orientation program will meet with an advisor and register for the fall semester during orientation. This is a process that takes place between student and advisor. Parents are not part of the advising and registration process. Please be assured that you will not be left alone. You will be working with a faculty member from your department to register for classes. If you and/or your parents would like to begin thinking about your fall classes, you can look at all fall classes online through PC Self Service. Your username and password for PC Self Service are the same as the username and password you used to access your AU email account.
