2015 Spring Orientation

Sunday, January 11th

10:00 am – 3:00 pm:  Multi-Purpose Room Student Center (2nd floor)
Residential Student Check-In
Students living on campus can move in on Sunday.  You will be checking in with the Residence Life Office in the Multi-purpose Room of the Student Center.  Once you arrive, you will receive your keys as well as a schedule for Orientation activities that begin on Monday. Don’t forget to get your ID made once you arrive. You will need it to access the building after dark.

Monday, January 12th

8:30 am-9:00 am:  Multipurpose Room (Student Center)
Check-In
All new students should plan to check-in for the day during this time.  You will get your schedule for the day, meet some of our current students, and begin to get some of the questions you have answered. 

8:30 am – 9:30 am:  Multipurpose Room (Student Center)
Student Services Fair
This is your chance to take care of business.  You can get your student ID, meet with Financial Aid, and get information from a variety of campus resources.  Please pass through sometime during the morning while you have a break.

8:30 -9:30 am: (207 Frith Hall)
Math Placement Exam/Foreign Language Placement Exam
Last chance to do your assessments!  Those students that did not complete the math placement exam or the foreign language exam before arriving to campus will have one last chance to take the assessment.

9:45 am – 10:00 am:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)
Welcome & Opening Session
Join other new students and meet the Orientation staff. The President, the Executive Vice President and the Vice President of Academic Affairs will share insight on the hallmarks of an Averett education.

10:00 am – 11:00 am:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)
Master Student Class
What should you expect as an AU student?  This session will provide important information from our faculty and student success professionals to help you be better prepared for the first day of classes and help you on the path toward success.

11:00 am – 11:30 pm:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)
Small Group Activity

11:30am -12:30 pm: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)
The Averett Way: Expectations, Responsibility and Involvement
Lesley Villarose, Dean of Students and Marsha Foster, Associate Dean of Students will fill you in on what to expect over the coming months at AU. Parking, meal plans and policies. This session will cover some of the basic things that you need to know during your time at Averett University.

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm:  Dining Hall (Student Center)
Lunch
Take a break, kick back, and enjoy the great food on campus with our Orientation Leaders!

1:45 pm – 4:00 pm:  Various Locations
Academic Advising Appointments
The final piece of the day!  As you check-in you will be assigned an appointment during the afternoon with your advisor.  This is an opportunity for you to sit down with your advisor, go through your plan of study, and get your classes for the spring lined up.

5:00pm – 7:00pm:  Dining Hall (Student Center)
Dinner
Grab a bite to eat before we start the evening.

7:00 pm: Movie Night, Sign-Up at Check-In

Tuesday, January 13h

Tuesday is a free day for students.  This is your chance to purchase books, get settled, meet other new students, and take care of any unfinished business.  If questions come up during the day, visit the fourth floor of the Student Center.  The Dean of Student’s Office and the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership Development are a great place to start.
