Academic Support

Our dedicated staff is here to help you achieve your academic goals! Our free services include assistance with general learning skills, tutoring for most of Averett’s classes, and disability services for special needs students. Whether you need help with note-taking skills, guidance for passing the Praxis, or assistance in preparing for a calculus exam, we work effectively alongside you in any academic endeavor. In accordance with Averett's mission statement, we are here to help you achieve your "big dreams" in order for you to fulfill your "bold future."

The academic support services office and its tutor training program are certified by the College Reading and Learning Association's (CRLA) – International Tutor Training Program. Averett is one of about 820 institutions world-wide that have achieved this distinction.

Our services are free of charge, and they include:

General Learning Skills:

• Time Management Tips for College Students
• Time Management Essentials

• General Information on Study Habits and Success Strategies
• A "Checklist" to Help You Succeed

• A Guide for Effectively Taking Notes
• Five Tips for Note-Taking

Tutoring sessions are available throughout the week in th Student Success Center, Room 116, and are typically small group sessions. There is no need to schedule an appointment, just show up during the time of the subject and tutor preference from the chart below.

Make-up Exams:
Make-up exams are often proctored by our tutors in Academic Support.  Contact the director for more information.

Standardized Testing:
We offer study support for the GRE, MCAT, LSAT, and Praxis.

CLEP Exams:
CLEP exams are proctored by the Director. Contact the director for more information.

MAT Exams:
MAT exams are proctored by the Director.
