Alumna & Trustee to Speak at Spring Commencement

Wimbish_AnnieDr. Annie P. Wimbish ’81, senior associate with Schlechty Center and a Board of Trustee member at Averett University, will speak to more than 250 graduates during the university’s spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7. The ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m., will be held at the university’s E. Stuart James Grant Athletic & Convocation Center at the North Campus.

Wimbish has been a professional educator for more than 30 years. During this time, she has served as a teacher and principal. In addition, she was the first female superintendent of the Hattiesburg Public School District.

She has served on a number of boards and committees including the American Association of School Administrators, Mississippi Superintendent of Education Advisory Board and the National Association and Mississippi Association of Educators. In addition, Wimbish serves as a marriage ministry co-chair, a Sunday school scholar and a Bible study scholar at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Averett, a master’s degree and an Ed.S. from the University of Virginia and a doctorate from Fayetteville State University.
