Wellness Screenings

health_screening1Just a reminder to sign up for your Wellness Screening for your Wellness Premium Incentive for 2017. The technicians will be in the multipurpose room on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 7 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Instructions were sent via email to all Averett University health plan participants. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred.

Flu Shot Clinic Reminder

flu_shot2Flu Shots will be given on campus this fall by Danville Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 7 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Additional information will be needed as you arrive for the vaccine. The Averett University health plan covers the vaccine as a preventive measure. Individuals not on the AU health plan must check with their healthcare provider to make sure it is covered.

Make sure to bring a copy of your photo ID and your insurance card with you to leave with the technician. Completion of additional paperwork will be required prior to receiving the vaccine. If you are not on the Averett Anthem plan, check with your insurance provider to make sure the flu vaccine is covered as a preventive measure.

Averett to Host Governor’s Summit

VirginiaOn Friday, Oct. 7, Virginia’s Governor and First Lady McAuliffe, Averett University and the Virginia Engage Network will host the “Governor’s Summit on Enhancing Engagement in the Commonwealth.”

In an effort to continue the exciting conversation about expanding service year opportunities in the Commonwealth, the Summit will combine with the annual meeting of the Virginia Engage Network to focus on establishing and growing a myriad of opportunities for college and university students throughout Virginia. Continuing the conversation from the previous summits at the College of William & Mary and James Madison University, as well as the signing of the Compact on National Service in Richmond, the Summit will allow presidents, chief engagement officers and their colleagues the opportunity to learn about and discuss opportunities for enhancing engagement at our institutions and throughout the Commonwealth.

Book Review at Danville Public Library

book-reviewDr. David Hoffman, professor of English/journalism communications, will present a book review at the Danville Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from noon to 1 p.m., reviewing “Dimestore,” the autobiography of Lee Smith, a prolific Southern writer who presently lives in Hillsborough, NC. Smith grew up in Grundy, Va., not too many miles from Hoffman’s childhood home in West Virginia, and so many of her memories are his memories of the mountains.

The presentation is open to the public. Food and beverages will be available from noon to 12:30, with the review immediately following.

 

Advising Training Session

Training1There will be an advising training/review session on Monday, Oct. 17, in Blount Chapel from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Topics will include:
-Best practices;
-Advising double-majors;
-Advising transfers;
-Tools to aid student understanding; and
-General advising concerns.

All members of the faculty, new or experienced, are invited to attend and participate.

 

Averett Women’s Network to Host Speed Networking

save_the_date1Join us at 2 Witches on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 4:30 p.m. for Averett Women’s Network’s first speed networking event. Participants will have the opportunity to network with one another in a “speed” setting, not only building relationships, but also having a great time. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

Averett University Annual Campus and Fire Safety Report

fireThe Averett University Annual Campus and Fire safety Report dated Oct. 1, 2016, is now available on the Averett website: https://www.averett.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015-Clery-Report-Final.pdf.

This report is required by the U.S. Department of Education of each college and university and contains policy statements and procedures related to campus safety. It also provides statistics indicating what crimes were committed on (or on public property immediately adjacent to) university property. The report also discloses what educational and preventative programs are provided to members of the Averett community to support safety and awareness as well as procedures to report crimes. Finally, the report also identifies resources available to students, staff and faculty if they are the victims of crimes and key contacts within Averett to access resources.
