Well Wishes for Dr. Alexis Ehrhardt

Congratulations to Dr. Alexis Ehrhardt on her new appointment as the CEO/President of The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce! Please join us to send well wishes in her new endeavor tomorrow, Dec. 14, from 3:30-5 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

CCECC Leadership Transition Plan

During the search for a new executive director, CCECC team members will continue in their existing roles. Brigid Belko will continue to oversee service-learning, Averett 101, National Bonner Leaders and the Engage Showcase, and will add the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification and the NSSE to her areas of focus.Rachel Covington will continue to lead the University’s efforts related to volunteerism, MLK Day of Service, AmeriCorps VISTA, Love Danville and the CCECC’s annual report. She also will be responsible for the Engaged Employers initiative, and will be the point person for Campus Compact of Virginia and the Virginia Engage Network. Tia Yancey will continue to focus on community engagement initiatives such as Day and Week to Engage, and will continue in her role related to study abroad. Angie McAdams will continue to oversee career development, internships and the graduate survey, and will add Service Year Fellowships. She also will convene the Averett Women’s Network, serving as the institutional representative for the State Network as well.

Debbie Flinn will serve as a liaison from Institutional Advancement to the CCECC to steward the grant with Danville Regional Foundation on behalf of Averett. All other general questions about the CCECC should be directed to Dr. Timothy Fulop at [email protected]. The position will be posted just after the first of the year, and we are grateful to Dr. Susan Huckstep and Brigid Belko for chairing the search.

GPS Student Spotlight

Meet Barbara Lymon, a student pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Criminal Justice degree who is expected to graduate in 2019. To see her on the GPS blog, click here.

QUESTION: What is your motivation for obtaining your degree?

ANSWER: “The motivation for obtaining my degree is to have the satisfaction of completing a task that has been in front of me for some time. The understanding that this achievement is a building block that provides a solid foundation for me to continue to contribute to the workforce in a more substantial role. Not only will the degree will allow me to advance within my career, it will also provide the basis for the next level of education.”

 

Decorating the Trees for a Cause

The School of Nursing is representing Averett this year in the “Decorating the Trees for a Cause” fundraiser at The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. The winner is determined by the amount of monetary donations the organization’s tree receives. Voting is open now through December 21, Monday-Friday, 8a.m.-5 p.m. Stop by during lunch and vote for Averett’s tree!

University Holiday Schedule

Averett will be closed for the winter holiday break starting Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, returning Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018. During that time, the Admissions and Alumni offices will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, and Friday, Dec. 29, to assist prospective students and to receive gifts made to the University.

 

W-2 Reminder

If you have not logged into the E-Stub system and set up your notification preferences, please do so as soon as possible. We would like everyone to get their notification when the W-2’s are ready. Remember, after logging into the E-Stub system, you will have to check the consent box to retrieve your W-2 electronically. If you have any questions, contact Pam Paynter at [email protected].

 Staff Meeting

The next Staff Meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 11:15 a.m. Please send any last-minute Golden Bagel nominations before Monday, Dec. 18, to [email protected].

In the new year, join us for a social media update, AU Guess Who, departmental announcements and a special presentation on the upcoming MLK Day events. The dining hall will be closed so staff council is providing cookies and water. See you after the holidays!
