The Student Life Department began recognizing students who go the extra mile in whatever they are doing on campus in 2014. Each week during Student Life staff meetings, staff members nominate students whose dedication to the university they want to recognize. Students are notified about the nomination and their chance to win a $50 Visa gift card. At the end of the semester, all the names of those who were nominated are put into a bowl and the name of one lucky student is selected. This is the department’s way of letting students know their efforts and hard work is appreciated.

This week they are recognizing Annalies Jobsis, Jessica Sheek and Jake Hensell.

thankyouThank You for Your Support

Thank you for your donations to the “Cupcakes for Life” service project. Due to your generosity, students in Catholic Campus Ministry and the Christian Student Fellowship collected donations of clothing and almost $200 dollars for Danville’s Transition Pregnancy Solutions. What a great way to help young mothers and support a local agency. Sincerest thanks to each of you!

Joan Kahwajy-Anderson, M.Ed., L.P.C., CHt Director of Counseling Services

CCEC-logoCCECC News

In recent months, the CCECC has provided a paper newsletter, The CCECC News, to faculty and staff. In an effort to use less paper, we are planning instead to post it at different locations on campus. If you would still like to receive a copy, however, please contact Rachel Covington.

main_hallStudent Engagement Survey

Once again Averett is participating in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). On Tuesday, Feb. 9, freshmen and seniors received an invitation by email to participate. A series of email reminders will follow, but we need your help in encouraging students to take the survey. If you teach freshmen and seniors, please mention the NSSE in your class. We are not allowed to require their participation or provide them with any incentives like extra credit or bonus points, but we have some incentives that have been approved to be randomly awarded among those who do participate.

We will use the data to identify aspects of the undergraduate experience inside and outside of the classroom to inform positive changes.

If you have any questions, please contact Pam McKirdy or Alexis Ehrhardt.
