Student Accolades

thumbs up accodalesThis week, Student Life would like to nominate Erica Skiddle, Andruw Cain, Lindsey Fulcher, Devin Merritt, Brandon Veasey, Ora McMillian, Dennis Edstrom and Daniel Surley.

Last fall, the Student Life department began recognizing students that go the extra mile in whatever they are doing on campus. Each week, the staff meets to select students for recognition for their dedication to Averett, and they are notified they’ve been nominated for a chance to win a $50 Visa Gift Card. At the end of the semester, we put all the names in a bowl and draw the name of one lucky student. This is our way to let the students know we appreciate all that they do.

GPS Student Spotlight

Jeremy Straton GPS CBThroughout the month, the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) admissions team interviews and highlights our GPS students. We hope you will enjoy learning more about these amazing members of our Averett family!

Meet Jeremy Straton who is pursuing his bachelor’s of business administration and is expected to graduate in 2017.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree? “My motivation to obtain my degree is based on my desire to advance my career, as well as to set an example for my kids.”

Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program? “The Averett GPS Program allowed me to attend class once a week, while gaining the classroom experience and still having the flexibility I needed to balance a busy life schedule between work, family and college.”

Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students: “My advice to fellow classmates and future AU students is simple: you will get out of the program what you put into it. If you invest the necessary time, the learning experience is extraordinary!”

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program? “The encouragement and support of my family, with the end goal of graduating.”
