The Averett Cheerleaders won the 2018 National All-Girls Team Championship and the 2018 Grand National Championship title on Saturday, Mar. 3, at the Christian Cheerleaders of American Collegiate Level Competition in Fayetteville, N.C.

Cheerleading Coach Angie Bowers says, “We are so proud of this team who have worked so hard and many hours to prepare for this competition and to win is just the icing on the cake. This is the first time in many years an Averett team has competed and going forward Averett will have a competition team as well as a side line team.”

Averett: From the Eyes of Freshmen

During every Averett 101 class each fall semester, the students go to the president’s house and enjoy a dinner with Dr. Franks and her husband, Joe. During that time, Dr. Franks asks the students what they love about Averett and if they have any concerns. During this spring semester, we will be sharing some of those positive comments with you. Enjoy!

“I like the small town.”

“I can find good places to study.”

“There are a lot of opportunities. (Athletics/Bonner/Volunteer)”

“The coffee in Jut’s is great.”

“I like the clubs and organizations.”

Engage Showcase

It is that time of year, again—The Engage Showcase! This is a time for you and your students to celebrate and share your community work.

Awards – Nominate a student, community partner or colleague that stands out in their community work! To nominate an Outstanding Engage Leader, please visit the criteria for award nominations and the award application. All applications must be submitted by Friday, Mar. 23.

Table Presentations – Would your class or intern be interested in hosting a table to discuss their engagement in the community? There will be 18 Averett tables in the Frith Lobby for the Engage Showcase on Monday, Apr. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. Students should bring tangible evidence of their work via photos, videos or products made for the community partner. We seek genuine conversation and ask that students bring what they used to connect with the community partner. If they cooked a meal, then bring some of the ingredients. If they put on an event, then bring some of the favors and promotional flyers, and so on. Please let Brigid Belko Gorton know of your interest by Friday, Mar. 23, at [email protected].

Honors Recognition Program – Following the Engage Showcase, at the Honors Recognition Program, 7-8:30 p.m., students will be recognized for their academic accomplishments. There will be group recognitions and individual recognitions. An RSVP to Mary Sullivan at [email protected] is requested.

Riverview Rocks it to 100%!

After the last staff meeting, the staff at our Riverview campus decided that they would take on Buddy Rawley’s challenge that people can help Averett by giving just a few dollars. And while it is true that big gifts can make a difference on their own; they were correct in thinking that if everyone gives what they are able we can make big changes at Averett!

We have bragged before about Athletics being 100%, but Riverview took it a step further and now the entire Riverview Campus is 100% including all faculty, staff, GA’s, Aramark and security! To stay in the spirit of the campaign, several people gave for a second time this year. Thank you to everyone at Riverview Campus for leading the way!

A New Office: Welcome to Alumni Hall
