MRI Scholarship

The annual Dan Daniel Military Resale Invitational (MRI) Endowed Scholarship, dinner and golf tournament at Andrews Air Force Base was held on June 5 and 6. Around $10,000 in scholarships was given out to four Averett students this year who have either served in the military, are currently serving or lost a family member in the line of duty.

The 2017 event had one presenting sponsor, plus 11 platinum and 12 gold sponsors. Final monetary amounts for 2017-18 are still being calculated. All proceeds from the tournament go to an endowment devoted to military scholarships. Averett has approximately $380,000 in endowment and after the proceeds from this year, will have $430,000 in endowment.

GPS Student Spotlight

Throughout the month, the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) admissions team interviews and highlights our GPS students. We hope you will enjoy learning more about these amazing members of our Averett family!

Today, meet Joshua Larkin, who is pursuing his bachelor of business administration. He is expected to graduate in 2018.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree? “I am motivated by my current place of employment to further my education to have greater opportunities for growth and to earn the respect of my current coworkers.”

Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program? “I chose the GPS Program based upon the flexibility of completing one class course at a time.”

Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students. “Keeping organized and working ahead helps keep a good line of communication between yourself and the professors.”

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program? “My motivation is driven due to multiple co-workers currently enrolled in the GPS Program. Therefore, we motivate each other.”

Visitor Parking for Admissions Guests

Reminder, please do not park in the two visitor parking spots located on Woodland Avenue. These two spots are specifically reserved for prospective students and their families visiting Averett University. These parking spots have placeholders for the family’s name; however, just because the placeholder is blank doesn’t mean the space is available. We receive many unexpected visits and these spots are where they are instructed to park. We want to do everything possible to make a great first impression with our prospective students and families and if someone is parked in their spot it often ruins our chance to make a great first impression. Thank for your understanding and cooperation with this as we try to better serve our students.
