GPS Student Spotlight
Throughout the month the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) admissions team interviews and highlights our GPS students. We hope you will enjoy learning more about these amazing members of our Averett family!
Meet Theresa Dickerson, a May graduate with a bachelor of business administration (BBA) degree and a current student in the master of business administration (MBA) program.
Why she chose the GPS Program: “I met Pat Williams, admissions counselor, at Mary Washington Healthcare when she was recruiting new students. I was in the process of researching colleges to obtain my BBA degree.
Pat and I had an instant connection. Pat is an excellent representative of Averett University. She explained the benefits and goals of the GPS Program, and I knew the GPS Program was the right fit for my lifestyle.”
What is motivating her to earn her MBA: “My ultimate education goal is to obtain my MBA degree, a goal I made 10 years ago. Obtaining my BBA degree was a stepping stone toward my ultimate goal while making me more competitive in my career field.”
What keeps her motivated: “My ultimate goal is to obtain my MBA degree to provide a better lifestyle for my family, and to set an educational foundation for my children.”
Tip for fellow and future classmates: “Stay focused! Life will always throw you curve balls. No matter what happens in life, stay focused on your dreams and goals. Always have open communication with your instructors and student success counselor if an emergency or major life changing event happens. They want you to succeed and will help you overcome obstacles if needed.”
Averett’s Women’s Network
The next event for Averett’s Women’s Network will be tomorrow (Thursday, June 30) at 4 p.m. at the home of President Dr. Tiffany Franks (500 Hawthorne Drive). Franks will not only serve as the host, but be our speaker as well.
Refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
Reminder: Cookout Tomorrow
Lunch tomorrow will be provided courtesy of President’s Council. Stop by the Student Center multipurpose room from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for a burger or two. Even if you didn’t RSVP for the cookout you are invited to join us. There will be plenty of food available.
