A group of community partners, in concert with the Dan River Health Collaborative, is supporting the Donation Station at the Danville Farmer’s Market this summer. The Donation Station is designed to connect growers/farmers with consumers who can donate local produce to families in need. This model benefits both farmers and the underserved community.

Volunteers are needed to accept food and monetary donations at the Market from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Saturday through September. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Alexis Ehrhardt. All donations will go to God’s Storehouse for distribution in food boxes. More than 2,500 pounds of fresh produce have been donated since the end of June!

carepackageService-Learning’s Global Reach

This fall, 19 IDS 101 courses will have a service-learning designation. To prepare, all IDS instructors participated in service-learning training this summer. Implementing the courses’ lessons on empathy, Averett staff compiled care packages with notes of support for Detachment 3, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 51 on the USS Lassen, DDG82, a guided missile destroyer out of Yokosuka, Japan. And, after not receiving any replenishments or mail for over a month, the detachment received the care packages with joy.
