A Warm Averett Welcome Is Extended To:

nichols_genaDr. Gena Nichols, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. Gena received a PhD from Wake Forest University in Microbiology and Immunology, focusing on interactions between viruses and human DNA repair systems. She continued to focus on viral infections during postdoctoral fellowships at Tulane University and SRI International, investigating new drugs and vaccines for influenza virus and studying how dengue virus, a hemorrhagic fever virus, alters blood vessels during infection. Gena has taught Microbiology at South University in High Point, N.C., and particularly enjoys sections on infectious diseases caused by viruses and protozoan parasites. Outside of studying how microbes make people sick, Gena enjoys entertaining her husband and two children, attempting to grow indoor plants, and running really long distances.

The students had two full days of in-depth training including spine boarding and splinting. Awesome job to all of these future Athletic Trainers!
