student_accoladesStudent Accolades

Last fall, the Student Life department began recognizing students that go the extra mile in whatever they are doing on campus. Each week, the staff meets to select students for recognition for their dedication to Averett, and they are notified they’ve been nominated for a chance to win a $50 Visa Gift Card. At the end of the semester, we put all the names in a bowl and draw the name of one lucky student. This is our way to let the students know we appreciate all that they do.

For the first week of classes, we would like to recognize the following students and thank them for their excellent assistance during opening and move-in: Katiana Hilliard, Clarice Ellinger, Ora McMillian, Tyler Henley, Alex Argentieri, Alec Justason, Chris Walton, Trevonne Thompson, Nicolette Loving, Jenique Martin, Aquayla Swann and Camilla Preston.

Student_Center1Articles for the Cougar Connection

With the start of the new school year, there is a lot of information that our students need to know. The Cougar Connection is a weekly student newsletter that seeks to condense messages into one source of information. If you have any news that you or your department needs to communicate to our student body, please submit an article for the Cougar Connection by clicking here.

Article submissions must be received by COB Thursdays, as the newsletter is sent out on Sundays. If you have any questions or would like to be added to the recipient list, please contact Rachel Covington at [email protected].

Do you know of students who have been awarded federal work-study money and are yet to be placed in a position? Averett has several available off-campus, community-based federal work-study positions at various community partner sites throughout the city of Danville. Work-study students will be working with elementary and middle school children to provide tutoring in after-school programs. Please contact Angie McAdams (CCECC) at [email protected] or 434-791-5629 to learn more.

WorkoutFitness Center Equipment for Sale

As you’ve heard, to make way for the new student health and wellness center, the Fitness Center has closed. While much of the equipment will be repurposed on campus, there will be a few pieces that will be available for purchase, if there is interest.

The equipment that can be sold includes one or two of each of the recumbent bicycles, elliptical machines and treadmills. In addition, the two exercise multi-station machines (must use vendor to move), and the balance balls can also be sold.

If you are interested in any of these items, please email Mark Sheets at [email protected] by Aug. 26, as we must make way for the construction to begin. We are working with the manufacturer to establish pricing for the used equipment, but if there is more interest than equipment, we will be doing a bid system to sell these.
