Averett Central Student Services Specialist, Part-time, Hourly

Position Description

Reporting to the Coordinator of Enrollment Services, the Student Services Specialist helps orchestrate communications and student services throughout the student lifecycle, from recruitment through graduation. This position includes, but is not limited to the following: helping students prepare the appropriate paperwork necessary to attend orientation, accept financial aid package, complete registration information, provide information regarding student accounts, submit graduation information, as well as a myriad of other services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Experience in a high traffic office setting
  • Ability to stay positive, even in stressful situations
  • Ability to apply processes and policies with sensitivity
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office

Primary Duties

The Student Services Specialist is responsible for providing exemplary customer service to students, faculty, and staff while assisting students with various registrarial, financial, and other student service needs.

The Student Services Specialist:

  • Provides thorough, accurate service as efficiently as possible.
  • Provides the best student experience possible.
  • Confirms receipt of tuition and transcript payments.
  • Provides information to students and families regarding the options for financial aid, the process for requesting aid, and the eligibility requirements for receiving and maintaining aid.
  • Directs calls to the correct area

The Student Services Specialist must have a:

  • Basic understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles.
  • General knowledge of Financial Aid, Student Accounts and Registrar procedures.

This position requires one to keep information confidential such as student grades, student and financial information.

Physical & Mental Demands/Work Environment

  • The duties of this position require performance of the following activities and work in the described environment, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Almost constant interaction with others requiring communication, both in-person and by telephone and email
  • Visual acuity required to perform duties to include reading names and addresses, use of computer, reading, etc.
  • Must be able to perform simple math functions
  • Must be able to change tasks frequently, function well in a noisy and distracting environment, and work with others as part of a team
  • Frequently will need to strength move or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, sitting, and walking
  • Work requires reaching and handling of supplies/documents/office tools, bending to retrieve items from low shelves/cabinets or twisting.
  • At times may experience time pressure
  • May need to push/pull items such as drawers, boxes, carts
  • Needs manual dexterity to use office equipment such as computer, calculator, phone, printer, copier, fax, scanner, scissors, stapler, hole-punch, etc.
  • Primary work location is a an indoor office environment
  • Work environment typically does not include an environment that is hazardous to health or safety,
