Remain Vigilant, Continue Following COVID-19 Protocols

Welcome back from the Thanksgiving holiday! Although the absence of students in-person and entering into the Christmas holiday season might be a tempting time to relax your vigilance, this is a reminder that everyone in the Averett community is to maintain their vigilance regarding COVID-19 health protocols. The nation has entered into the winter surge, and it is more important than ever that you continue to fill out your daily LiveSafe health questionnaire, wear face coverings and maintain social distancing. Be especially vigilant if you engaged in large indoor gatherings for Thanksgiving against which the CDC recommended, and remember that what you do can have a bearing on others at Averett and off campus.

Commencement

Due to the Governor of Virginia’s recent order limiting all indoor and outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people, Averett University will not be able to hold Commencement in the way we have been planning. However, we are committed to reinventing this experience and making this milestone as meaningful and memorable as possible.

We have developed a two-pronged approach that includes an in-person opportunity and a virtual component. First, we will livestream a virtual commencement ceremony full of the many graduation traditions on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at AverettCougars.com/live. Then, on Saturday, Dec. 12, we are excited to invite graduates to come to the Averett University E. Stuart James Grant North Campus for an individualized, in-person commencement experience with up to four guests in attendance. The full details can be found here, and this event will also be livestreamed at AverettCougars.com/live2.

While crews work to complete the project, the City of Danville has asked that we do not park on Mountain View Avenue during this time. The repair and repaving project is expected to last through December 4. Please follow any LiveSafe updates.
