QUESTION: Why did you choose Averett University’s Graduate & Professional Studies program?

ANSWER: “I chose Averett’s Graduate and Professional Studies Program because it fits my needs. After talking to Jonathan Nichels, admissions counselor, he helped me realize the benefits of me attending Averett University versus any other institution with an online degree program. I’m a single mom and I work full-time, so being able to take all of my classes online has been tremendously convenient.”

Shakespeare in the Park 2018

Shakespeare in the Park will take place this Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Ballou Park. Come and enjoy a youthful adaptation of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, written and directed by Averett University professor Dr. Marc Muneal. Cast members range in age from 13 to 30. Grab your blankets or lawn chairs and bring the whole family to the Ballou Park stage free of charge.

Special Notice: Because of the possibility of rain interruptions this weekend, we are opening our dress rehearsals, Thursday and Friday, July 19 and 20, at 6.30 p.m. at the Ballou Park stage, to the public. Please join us!

Synopsis – The campers at the Stratford Tennis Camp are all antsy because of the approaching Midsummer Meet. A couple of lovesick camp counselors, a visiting troupe from the neighboring Avon Dramatic Arts Camp and a bag of forbidden chocolate heighten the tension. Hijinks, hilarity and a mad sugar rush ensue.

Save the Date: Annual August Opening Session for Faculty & Staff

Tuesday, August 14
2 – 4:15 p.m. Opening of the Year Kick-Off (Informal fellowship time beginning at 1:15 p.m.)
4:15 – 6:30 p.m. Family Picnic and Tours of Newly Renovated Main Hall

Mark your calendars for the 2018 August Opening! Join your fellow faculty and staff as we celebrate the new school year on Tuesday, Aug. 14, starting at 1:15 p.m. in the Frith Fine Arts Center Lobby.

The afternoon begins with refreshments and fellowship in the lobby until 2 p.m., followed by our program in Pritchett Auditorium featuring new faculty and staff pinning, “A Student’s Journey through the themes of Averett 2020,” and our honored guest, Dr. Eileen Hulme, a nationally respected educator, who will lead an engaging presentation on the cultural, technological, socio-economic and demographic shifts that are creating unique forces on colleges and universities. Dr. Hulme, who brings a wealth of experience as a faculty member, administrator and researcher, frames the “issues and challenges of the day” profoundly well, with the needs of the student always at the center.

Following our Opening of the Year Session, President Franks and Joe will host you and your loved ones for a family picnic in the Carrington Gym (including a “Kids Corner” with bubbles, chalk and more) and everyone will have the opportunity to tour the newly renovated Main Hall.
