MFSlogo_2016Averett University is pleased to announce that it has been named a 2016 Military Friendly School® by Victory Media, originator of Military Friendly® education and career resources for veterans and their families. Averett is one of 34 colleges and universities in Virginia to receive this designation, and one of 1,400 colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide to make the list.

“To be recognized as a military friendly institution is such an honor,” said Janet Roberson university registrar and military affairs officer at Averett. “At Averett, it’s important to us that current members of the military, as well as veterans and their families, have easy access to a quality education that is also affordable.”

Now in its seventh year, Victory Media’s Military Friendly® ratings recognize colleges with programs for veterans, members of the Armed Forces leaving military service and military spouses. The schools that made the list were chosen because they exhibit leading practices in recruiting and retaining students with military experience. The list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven nationwide survey of more than 10,000 schools that are approved for VA tuition funding. The survey covers 10 indicators of success including support for student veterans on campus, graduation and employment outcomes and military spouse policies.

Daniel Nichols, Chief Product Officer of Victory Media and Navy Reserve veteran said in a news release, “Those earning the 2016 Military Friendly® designation demonstrate a strong connection between classroom learning and career development. They’re moving the needle beyond ‘why recruit military’ to translating military competencies into training and positive employment after graduation.”

Veterans and current members of the military (both active and reserve) have a number of options available to them through Averett. The University offers a military discount for active duty military and it participates in the Post 911 GI Bill® Yellow Ribbon Program for veterans as well as other GI Bill® Chapters. Many veterans in the Post 911 GI Bill® program also transfer entitlement to their spouse or children. In addition, Averett offers financial aid to those who are eligible. Complete information about military options can be found at www.gibill.va.gov.

Averett offers classes in an accelerated format leading toward undergraduate and graduate degrees at satellite campuses across the state including the Marine Corps Base at Quantico. For more information about classes offered at the base, contact Academic Advisor Erma Neveu at [email protected] or 703-640-7498.
