Averett University announces its 2017 Homecoming, featuring a weekend of activities and events for the whole family. Themed “There’s No Place Like Home,” October 20-22 includes features for all.

Friday, Oct. 20
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the university will host its annual Homecoming Hometown Party at the Danville Community Market, with a steak dinner courtesy of Gentleman’s Ridge and beverages from Lawrence Distributing. This year’s entertainment will be provided by DJ Hayze. Dinner and beverage tickets are on sale for $25 through Friday, Oct. 13. Those who have not purchased dinner tickets can get admission and beverage tickets for $15 after 8 p.m. at the door. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Saturday, Oct. 21
Festivities at Averett’s North Campus will begin at 11 a.m., when the annual Tailgate Party opens up in Tailgate Alley of the parking lot. Tailgate Alley has become a special part of Homecoming and the university encourages those who want to tailgate together to arrive together because spots will not be reserved. Children’s activities like a bounce house, face painting and temporary tattoos will be available.

At 1 p.m., the Averett Women’s Soccer team will face off with Greensboro College for the team’s final home game and senior day. The first 100 people arriving will receive an Averett Foam Finger.

Gates and concessions at the Frank R. Campbell Stadium will reopen at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars Football will kick off at 6 p.m. against NC Wesleyan. Tickets for the game are $10 for adults, and children 6 and under are free. During halftime, the Homecoming Court will be announced, senior student-athletes will be named, and alumni award recipients, Hall of Fame inductees and Averett’s 2017 National Championship Equestrian Team will be recognized. When the parking lot at the North Campus fills up, there will be overflow parking and shuttle service available at Abundant Life World Outreach Church (955 Mt. Cross Rd). Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as parking is expected to fill up quickly.

Sunday, Oct. 22
The weekend’s festivities will conclude at 10 a.m. when the university holds its annual Service of Remembrance in Blount Chapel. This special chapel service honors members of the Averett community who passed away in the last year. Following the chapel service, brunch will be served in the dining hall in the Student Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (Dutch treat).
