Students at Averett University have the typical mandatory freshman classes such as English or speech.

However those entering the honors program have another class they have to take — Honors 100: History of Danville. It is being taught by Assistant Professor of History Andrew Canady.

The class format is reading and discussion one week, and then the following week the students go out in the community to see history in person.

“So far our class has taken a trolley [tour] of historical and cultural sites in Danville and visited the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History,” Canady said.
